Metal braces

Metal braces are what you typically think of when picturing braces. Even with all the advancements in orthodontic treatment, metal braces are still the most popular type of braces and are the gold standard for teeth straightening solutions. Today’s metal braces are more comfortable and smaller than ever, made with high-quality stainless steel. Metal braces are suitable for adults, teens and children. At our Greater Houston orthodontist offices, we’ve found that children and teens love to customize their braces with colorful elastics, and most adults in metal braces opt for neutral-colored elastics.

Clear aligners

Clear aligners, made popular by the Invisalign® system, are a popular, virtually invisible braces alternative. Clear aligner therapy utilizes a series of custom plastic trays that make gradual movements in your teeth to straighten them. One of the main differences between braces vs. clear aligners is the ability to remove your aligners for eating and drinking any liquids besides water. To keep your treatment on track, you’ll need to wear your clear aligners for 20-22 hours daily. On average, treatment with clear aligners takes 12 to 18 months, but treatment could be longer or shorter depending on your specific needs. Throughout treatment, you’ll check in with your family orthodontist every 12 weeks to ensure everything is progressing correctly. Like other braces types, after completing treatment with clear aligners, we’ll provide you with a custom-fitted retainer to keep your new smile straight for a lifetime.

Garrett & Boyd Orthodontics offers Angel clear aligners in Sugar Land and Rosenberg, Texas.
